I cant remember the last time that we'd ever felt relieved heading towards the UK for its weather(probably never!) yet here we were on our flight at 30, 000 feet above the patchwork quilt design of English fields happy to have escaped the last 24 hours of Icelandic weather - basically nothing more than icy rain and bitterly cold winds with a temp range of 1-5C !
The "I" experience though had been a memorable one as in 4 action packed days we'd seen amazing waterfalls, geysirs, the effects of tetonic plates colliding, incredible glacial lagoons, scrambled beside a glacier, taken in a huge volcanic landscape, marvelled at the incredible contrast of black sand beaches and towering mountains, watched the sun shimmer while setting on a snow filled landscape, visited a viking village, somehow entered a stage of the world car pro rally - ice and snow section, and of course lost many hours of sleep watching the incredible dancing spectacle of the Northern Lights - what an incredible 4 days and what a beautiful country
With that behind us we arrived at busy Gatwick airport where a plethora of accents told you how historically diverse this small country is but to me always feels like a 2nd home.
With bags in hand our journey to our overnight accommodation was less than 200 metres to the Premiere Inn with its all inclusive dinner and breakfast package something we were both looking forward to if we could stay awake long enough to enjoy ! The Premiere Inn always brings a smile to the family as staying here in 2013 we couldn't work out how to get to the ground floor so instead had to run down an up escalator like the bogan family we were !
The plan for now is simple, just relax until we take our next flight a "squeezy jet" direct to Rome late tomorrow afternoon
Ps a sad day back home where Kylee reported having to put down one our 2 cats "Fatty" a loved cat of the girls and ourselves who earned his name because of his size as a kitten - loved by all.
